TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 2:4

Konteks

2:4 He will judge disputes between nations;

he will settle cases for many peoples.

They will beat their swords into plowshares, 1

and their spears into pruning hooks. 2

Nations will not take up the sword against other nations,

and they will no longer train for war.

Yesaya 14:1

Konteks

14:1 The Lord will certainly have compassion on Jacob; 3  he will again choose Israel as his special people 4  and restore 5  them to their land. Resident foreigners will join them and unite with the family 6  of Jacob.

Yesaya 49:23

Konteks

49:23 Kings will be your children’s 7  guardians;

their princesses will nurse your children. 8

With their faces to the ground they will bow down to you

and they will lick the dirt on 9  your feet.

Then you will recognize that I am the Lord;

those who wait patiently for me are not put to shame.

Yesaya 56:3

Konteks

56:3 No foreigner who becomes a follower of 10  the Lord should say,

‘The Lord will certainly 11  exclude me from his people.’

The eunuch should not say,

‘Look, I am like a dried-up tree.’”

Yesaya 56:6

Konteks

56:6 As for foreigners who become followers of 12  the Lord and serve him,

who love the name of the Lord and want to be his servants –

all who observe the Sabbath and do not defile it,

and who are faithful to 13  my covenant –

Yesaya 60:5

Konteks

60:5 Then you will look and smile, 14

you will be excited and your heart will swell with pride. 15

For the riches of distant lands 16  will belong to you

and the wealth of nations will come to you.

Yesaya 60:10

Konteks

60:10 Foreigners will rebuild your walls;

their kings will serve you.

Even though I struck you down in my anger,

I will restore my favor and have compassion on you. 17

[2:4]  1 sn Instead of referring to the large plow as a whole, the plowshare is simply the metal tip which actually breaks the earth and cuts the furrow.

[2:4]  2 sn This implement was used to prune the vines, i.e., to cut off extra leaves and young shoots (H. Wildberger, Isaiah, 1:93; M. Klingbeil, NIDOTTE 1:1117-18). It was a short knife with a curved hook at the end sharpened on the inside like a sickle. Breaking weapons and fashioning agricultural implements indicates a transition from fear and stress to peace and security.

[14:1]  3 tn The sentence begins with כִּי (ki), which is understood as asseverative (“certainly”) in the translation. Another option is to translate, “For the Lord will have compassion.” In this case one of the reasons for Babylon’s coming demise (13:22b) is the Lord’s desire to restore his people.

[14:1]  4 tn The words “as his special people” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[14:1]  5 tn Or “settle” (NASB, NIV, NCV, NLT).

[14:1]  6 tn Heb “house.”

[49:23]  7 tn Heb “your,” but Zion here stands by metonymy for her children (see v. 22b).

[49:23]  8 tn Heb “you.” See the preceding note.

[49:23]  9 tn Or “at your feet” (NAB, NIV); NLT “from your feet.”

[56:3]  10 tn Heb “who attaches himself to.”

[56:3]  11 tn The infinitive absolute precedes the finite verb for emphasis.

[56:6]  12 tn Heb “who attach themselves to.”

[56:6]  13 tn Heb “and take hold of”; NAB “hold to”; NIV, NRSV “hold fast.”

[60:5]  14 tn Or “shine,” or “be radiant” (NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV).

[60:5]  15 tn Heb “and it will tremble and be wide, your heart.”

[60:5]  16 tn Heb “the wealth of the sea,” i.e., wealth that is transported from distant lands via the sea.

[60:10]  17 tn Heb “in my favor I will have compassion on you.”
